Seminar entitled “Enhancing Logistic Efficiency for Manufacturing in Indonesia” held at Drew & Napier in Singapore on 14 November 2025 as part of a collaborative marketing initiative. The event was a joint collaboration between Subang Smartpolitan, Drew & Napier, Makarim & Taira S., UOB Indonesia, with support from PT Patimban Global Gateway Terminal (PGT) and Indonesia Investment Promotion Centre (IIPC) Singapore.<\/p>\n

Indonesia’s Appeal and Asian Investment Data<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Indonesia presents a strong appeal to global investors. This is substantiated by recent data from the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry\/BKPM of Indonesia, which records a significant influx of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the country. Major Asian economies, including Singapore, Hong Kong, and China, consistently rank among the top five largest investing nations in Indonesia. This trend underscores the confidence global partners place in Indonesia’s industrial future.<\/p>\n

Singapore has consistently held the position as the single largest source of investment in Indonesia over the last three years (2022\u20132024). Singapore\u2019s annual contribution averages 31.0 percent of the total FDI in Indonesia, with a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) averaging 22.9 percent.<\/p>\n

Government’s Role and Policy Support<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The event commenced with a Keynote Speech by the Promotion Director of ASEAN and Australia, Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry\/BKPM of Indonesia, stated “Under the leadership of President Prabowo, Indonesia has set an economic growth target of 7 to 8 percent by 2028. Facilitating investors and the downstream industry is the most effective approach to achieve this. Collaboration between the Government and Industrial Estates is key to accelerating investors’ efforts in developing their business in Indonesia.”<\/p>\n

The focus on the manufacturing sector is highly strategic, given its fundamental role in the Indonesian economy. The manufacturing industry continues to record an impressive annual growth rate, with an upward investment trend over the past three years. This performance reinforces the sector’s position as the backbone and primary engine of Indonesia’s economic expansion.<\/p>\n

The session continued with an explanation by Andria Buchara, Director of the Indonesia Investment Promotion Center (IIPC) Singapore \u2013 Ministry of Investment & Downstream Industry\/BKPM of Indonesia. He outlined \u201cThe Indonesian government is continuously strengthening support for the manufacturing sector by introducing policies and incentives that directly reduce logistics costs and accelerate the flow of goods. Developing industrial-logistics corridors, increasing port capacity, and digitizing licensing and supply chain services are priorities to ensure operational reliability for investors. We believe these strategic steps provide greater certainty and competitiveness for industry players who choose Indonesia as their production and export base.\u201d<\/p>\n

Strategic Project Synergy: Infrastructure Development Creates Logistics Efficiency<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The seminar aimed to provide comprehensive insight to investors from the shipping, logistics, and manufacturing sectors regarding Indonesia’s infrastructure and logistics landscape. The primary focus was detailing the vital role of Indonesia’s strategic projects, particularly the Patimban Seaport and its integration with the Subang Smartpolitan industrial estate. This synergy is expected to create an optimal supply chain and accelerate manufacturing growth and investment transformation.<\/p>\n

The seminar featured Kevin Tan, Head of Logistics, Sector Solutions Group, UOB, who delivered a presentation titled \u201c<\/em>Scaling in Indonesia: Manufacturing Growth Powered by People, Ports and Policy\u201d. He emphasized the importance of fostering a collaborative ecosystem to build a robust logistics infrastructure \u2013 key to unlocking Indonesia\u2019s potential as a regional production hub.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on UOB Indonesia\u2019s participation, Harapman Kasan, Wholesale Banking Director, UOB Indonesia, said, \u201cOur collaboration with Subang Smartpolitan and Patimban Global Gateway Terminal reflects UOB Indonesia\u2019s commitment to supporting foreign investors throughout regional connectivity and FDI Advisory expertise. By linking investors with the right ecosystem and strategic partners, we aim to facilitate investments that strengthen Indonesia\u2019s manufacturing base and regional trade integration\u201d.<\/p>\n

Next, \u201cInsights on Infrastructure Development and the Impact on Supply Chain, Logistic, and Manufacturing Efficiency\u201d, was presented by Mr. Abednego Purnomo, Vice President of Subang Smartpolitan. He presented the integrated township development: Subang Smartpolitan – a “Smart, Green, and Sustainable City” is being prepared as an investment destination for the manufacturing and commercial sectors, offering immediate proximity and direct connectivity to Patimban Seaport, Kertajati International Airport, and the Trans Java Toll Road.<\/p>\n

He explained, “Infrastructure development is closely related to manufacturing, in which the investors not only look at costs but also consider travel time, making the initial location selection crucial for overall logistics efficiency. Fortunately, over the past few years, we have seen massive infrastructure development, such as toll roads and Patimban Port, which significantly contribute to sea logistics efficiency”.<\/p>\n

Regarding the development progress of Patimban Seaport, Pierre Avesque, President Director of PGT, provided an update \u201cTogether with PPI (PT Pelabuhan Patimban Internasional), PGT and PPI have purchased the necessary equipment to service the container and multipurpose terminal\u201d. The terminal is scheduled to begin operations in January 2026 with the deployment of a Mobile Harbour Crane (MHC). The terminal\u2019s capacity will gradually increase with two additional MHC units expected in April 2026, followed by three Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and nine Electric Rubber-Tired Gantry (E-RTG) cranes in December 2026. With these additions, the container terminal\u2019s capacity will rise from 250,000 TEUs to 800,000 TEUs by the end of\u00a0December\u00a02026.<\/p>\n

The seminar concluded with a legal and regulatory outlook during the session \u201cInsights on Investments in Indonesia\u201d \u00a0by Maria Sagrado, Managing Partner of Makarim & Taira S., She explained \u201cThe Indonesian government actively encourages foreign investments through various means, including, recently, by issuing the BKPM regulation No. 5 of 2025, which streamlines investment procedures with the aim to create more opportunities for foreign investors to invest within the country\u201d.<\/p>\n

Julian Kwek, Director of Drew & Napier LLC, added, \u201cWith its abundant natural resources and population demographics, Indonesia has always been compelling for investors. The new initiatives implemented by the President Prabowo administration are designed to improve infrastructure, logistics, and governance, and will result in Indonesia being even more compelling\u201d.<\/p>\n

The success of this event underscores the robust collaboration between the Indonesian Government and private sector developers in positioning Indonesia as a premier global manufacturing investment destination.
